Washington D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect pro-environment candidates, announced today the endorsement of Jonathan Jackson for election to the U.S. House representing Illinois’ 1st District.

“Jonathan Jackson understands that the climate crisis impacts the health of communities, and disproportionately impacts historically marginalized communities,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “Jackson will fight for a clean energy economy that protects workers’ rights and creates good-paying jobs. We are excited to support Jackson’s campaign and we look forward to working with him to create a resilient climate for all communities.”

“Jonathan Jackson has a long record advocating for social justice and we know he will be a strong voice for climate and environment justice in Congress,” said Illinois Environmental Council General Fund Executive Director Jennifer Walling. “We are excited to see LCV Action Fund support his campaign to represent Illinois because his depth of experience advocating for communities make him the best candidate to tackle the climate crisis while centering justice for all. We look forward to working with Jackson in Congress to transition to a clean energy economy with good paying, sustainable jobs for all people in Illinois.”

“I am honored and grateful to receive the endorsement and support of the League of Conservation of Voters Action Fund,” said Jonathan Jackson. “Climate change will reach the tipping point of irreversible damage if we don’t act immediately. While climate change impacts everyone, low-income communities and communities of color endure the disproportionate burden of environmental contamination. As a result, many of these communities have the highest asthma, cancer, and lead poisoning rates. For example, 16 percent of families in Chicago have a child diagnosed with asthma, exceeding both state and national averages. I hope to work with the League of Conservation Voters to support sustainability education and advance climate resilience reforms and environmental justice by elevating local community voices and working together to advance solutions to these challenges.”
