Washington, DC—The League of Conservation Voters Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of Lisa Blunt Rochester for election to the U.S. House of Representatives (DE-AL). Rochester will work to prepare for and reduce the impacts of climate change on Delaware while create good-paying green jobs in the state.

“Delaware is already being threatened by climate change – from a rise in allergies to a rise in sea levels. It is more important than ever that Delaware’s seat in the House of Representatives is filled by someone who will champion climate action – and Lisa Blunt Rochester is exactly the leader we need,” said LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski. “She’s no stranger to breaking barriers and taking on tough challenges, and in Congress, we know she will work tirelessly to combat climate change, grow our clean energy economy and protect public health.”

Lisa Blunt Rochester was raised in Wilmington, Delaware, and has a long career of service to her state. As a caseworker for then-U.S. Representative Tom Carper, she helped Delawareans on a range of issues from housing to Social Security. In 1998, Rochester made history as Delaware’s first African American Deputy Secretary of Health and Social Services. She later became the first African American Secretary of Labor and State Personnel Director. She was commissioned to investigate the Delaware State Police for racial and gender discrimination, and helped create a roadmap to improve internal and external police relations. Rochester later served as the CEO of the Metropolitan Wilmington Urban League, a public policy think tank focused on the inclusion of people of color. If elected, Rochester will be the first woman and the first person of color to represent Delaware in Congress.
