Washington, D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will support sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of Representative Scott Peters for re-election in California’s 52nd Congressional District.

“Scott Peters has been a true champion for California’s coastline,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “From his commitment to our clean energy future to his efforts to hold polluters accountable, he is exactly the kind of leader we need more of in Congress and we are thrilled to endorse him for re-election.”

“In San Diego, we know a clean, healthy environment is essential to our way of life and prosperity,” said Representative Scott Peters. “As a member of the Energy and Commerce Committee, I am focused on preventing the Trump Administration’s efforts to unravel EPA environmental regulations that protect our land, air, and water. This endorsement from the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund underscores how important this fight is. Thank you, LCV. “

Representative Scott Peters is an important leader on climate change in Congress. He has introduced legislation that would reduce emissions of climate pollutants such as methane and black carbon, provide funding for climate adaptation planning, and he has supported the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Clean Power Plan. Peters has also fought against attacks on the Superfund program in order to ensure that polluters are held financially accountable for spills. He is a member of the Bicameral Task Force on Climate Change, the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition and the Safe Climate Caucus. Prior to being elected in 2012, Peters worked at the EPA as an economist, started a law practice focused on environmental law, and served as San Diego’s first City Council President and as a member of the California Coastal Commission. He has earned an impressive 94% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.
