Washington, D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will support sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of Representative Stephanie Murphy for re-election in Florida’s 7th Congressional District.

“Representative Stephanie Murphy has consistently demonstrated her commitment to protecting Florida’s families and environment,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “She understands that Florida is ground zero for climate change, from sea level rise to extreme weather, and that we need to take immediate action to address this crisis. She’s a strong advocate for the conservation of Florida’s lands and beautiful coasts. We need voices like hers now more than ever in Congress and we are proud to endorse Representative Murphy for re-election.”

“Representative Murphy is a leader when it comes to standing up to the Trump administration’s disastrous environmental policies,” said Florida Conservation Voters Executive Director Aliki Moncrief. “Representative Murphy understands that in Florida, our environment is our economy. Her voice will be needed over the next two years as we fight to protect the waters and natural areas that make Florida so special.”

“Florida families are not only living with the fear of the next extreme weather event, we are deeply worried about the quality of the air our children breathe and the water they drink,” said Representative Stephanie Murphy. “We need to protect Florida’s environment and natural resources, so we can preserve our beautiful state and grow our economy. In Congress, I’m proud to fight for smart environmental policies that will create jobs and ensure cleaner, more affordable energy options for central Florida families.”

Murphy is running for her second term representing Florida’s 7th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. She earned an impressive 91 percent score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard in 2017, her first year in office. Murphy is committed to addressing climate change, co-sponsoring the CLIMATE Act which would nullify Trump’s anti-environmental executive orders. Using her position on the Armed Services committee, Murphy has called climate change a threat to our national security and publicly denounced the Trump administration’s decision to exit the Paris Climate Accord.

She is also working to make permanent tax credits for clean energy like wind and solar. Murphy has worked to help protect the lakes and wetlands that are the source waters for the Indian River Lagoon, which is currently experiencing an environmental crisis with toxic algae blooms that are closing beaches and killing endangered manatees. She has also consistently opposed offshore drilling that would endanger Florida’s coasts.

Murphy is featured on GiveGreen.com, a project of LCV Victory Fund and NextGen America, supported by the NRDC Action Fund PAC. GiveGreen.com is the only website devoted exclusively to raising money for environmental champions running for office. Last cycle, the GiveGreen program raised more contributions to candidates than ever before — over $8.3 million for state and federal candidates.
