WASHINGTON, DC— The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of two candidates from Maryland for re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives: Steny Hoyer (MD-05) and John Delaney (MD-06).

“Representatives Hoyer and Delaney know that a thriving economy and a healthy environment go hand-in-hand and have been real leaders in Congress elevating the need to take immediate action to address the climate crisis,” said LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski. “They have been pivotal in moving the conversation forward on the urgent need to move towards a future powered by clean energy so that we can leave a safe and healthy planet for our children and grandchildren.”

We need to do all we can to ensure that we leave a healthy planet to our children and future generations.”

As part of Democratic leadership and during his long and distinguished service in the U.S. House of Representatives, Representative Hoyer has consistently fought against polluter-backed attacks on our nation’s bedrock environmental laws. Hoyer has been integral to the House passage of important national climate and clean energy legislation.  Close to home, Hoyer has secured millions of dollars to clean up the Chesapeake Bay and the Patuxent, Potomac, Anacostia, and St. Mary’s Rivers.  He has also helped add 8,000 acres to the Patuxent Wildlife Refuge, expanded and protected Piscataway Park, and acquired 6,000 acres in Charles County for the Douglas Point Project. Hoyer has earned an 81 percent lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.

As a member of the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC), Representative Delaney has been a strong voice for climate action in the U.S. House. Drawing on his successful business career, he has been a powerful advocate for climate action and growing the clean energy economy. Delaney has been a strong supporter of the EPA’s Clean Power Plan and the landmark Paris Climate Agreement. He is a leading voice in Congress pushing for a price on carbon pollution and introduced the State’s Choice Act which would make clear that an excise tax on carbon can be used to comply with the Clean Power Plan. Delaney has earned a 90 percent lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.
