Washington, D.C. — The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) and Climate Power announced an additional $4 million in new spending over August recess to thank members of Congress for supporting transformative clean energy legislation that will create jobs, lower utility bills for families, and tackle climate change.

The new ads, running in LCV’s name, will launch ahead of House members’ planned return to D.C. to vote on the $3.5 trillion budget resolution, just days after the pro-polluter group American Action Network launched false attack ads about the overwhelmingly popular Build Back Better agenda.

“It’s no surprise that a conservative front group wants to block overwhelmingly popular action on climate, clean energy, justice and jobs in a last ditch attempt to pad the pockets of polluter CEOs,” said Pete Maysmith, LCV SVP of Campaigns. “As we heard from the UN, this is a ‘code red for humanity’ and failure to act on climate is not an option — these members of Congress deserve immense credit for keeping up the fight for working families and our planet.”

“Big Oil and Gas companies have been lying to the public for decades and we can’t let them get away with it any longer,” said Lori Lodes, Executive Director of Climate Power. “The American people are ready for action on climate change and members of Congress are ready to do what’s necessary to create millions of clean energy jobs and stop the worst of the climate crisis.”

New TV and digital ads will go up in the following districts:

These ads to boost House members are in addition to Climate Power and LCV’s already announced $20 million campaign this summer to bring attention to the opportunity Congress has to invest in clean energy jobs and take immediate climate action. From the Climate Action Now: Great American Build Tour, to ramped up field organizing efforts in 8 states, to ongoing paid media campaigns in key states and congressional districts with television, digital, billboard, and print ads, this is a historic August recess and summer of action for the environmental movement.

Script for sample ad (Rep. Cindy Axne, IA-03) below.

“They’re at it again”
For years, big polluters lied to us
And now
As Congress prepares to pass a clean energy plan
They’re at it again
With false attacks on Congresswoman Cindy Axne
Here’s what the plan really does
Creates thousands of Iowa jobs
In the fastest growing clean energy industries
It will help lower monthly costs for families
Starting with utility bills
And we take on climate change
Clean energy
It’s a win for our economy
And their future
Thank you, Congresswoman Axne
