Washington, D.C. — Today, in response to Senate passage of the budget resolution the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) and Climate Power released the first spots in a new seven-figure round of TV ads. The ads thank Senators from Arizona, Georgia, New Hampshire, and Nevada who voted in support of the $3.5 trillion budget reconciliation package early Wednesday morning, a plan with climate policies at its core, that according to recent polling is supported by three out of four voters.

The clean energy investments outlined in this budget resolution will help get our economy back on track with the creation of good paying jobs and lowering the costs for working families. This legislation will be paid for by making sure the wealthy and multinational corporations pay their fair share. But people making under $400,000 won’t pay a penny more. In fact, many middle class families with children will have more money in their pockets with the tax credits outlined in the plan. And these investments  will cut carbon pollution in half  by 2030 and put our nation on the path to 100% carbon-free energy powering our electricity grid and new cars, buses, and buildings by 2035 while delivering at least 40% of investment benefits to communities of color and low-income communities that have borne the brunt of fossil fuel pollution.

“With the backdrop of record-breaking heat waves, catastrophic wildfires, droughts, storms, and floods sweeping the nation and the “code red for humanity” from the  IPCC  reinforcing the need for swift action on the climate crisis — we thank those Senators who took the first step and voted  for the transformative investments we need to build back better at the scale that science and justice require,”  said LCV Senior Vice President of Campaigns Pete Maysmith. “The moment for climate, justice, and jobs is now and we are thrilled to see this once in a generation opportunity in progress. Now we must continue to meet the moment and ensure that President Biden’s full Build Back Better agenda is enacted into law to build a cleaner and healthier future for all.”

“The climate crisis is here. Severe weather is disrupting the lives of people across the country and they are demanding a response from lawmakers,” said Lori Lodes, Executive Director of Climate Power. “Senate Democrats are leading the charge, taking the bold action that will put American workers on the job of fixing this crisis. Because of their leadership we are one step closer to passing a plan that brings equity to neighborhoods that have lived with pollution for decades while turbocharging a clean energy economy.”

The new round of ads, as part of the groups’ over $20 million investment in paid ads, will run in four states thanking senators for prioritizing working families and supporting the creation of good paying clean energy jobs to tackle climate change and power the clean energy economy, including:

  • Arizona (Kelly and Sinema)
  • Georgia (Ossoff and Warnock)
  • New Hampshire (Hassan and Shaheen)
  • Nevada (Cortez Masto and Rosen)

These ads, as part of the Great American Build Campaign, come after the groups advertised in these key states and elsewhere encouraging senators and representatives to continue fighting for climate and environmental justice by passing a reconciliation package with bold clean energy and climate investments.

Today’s announcement builds on a historic summer of action across the country and in D.C. Last week, the groups announced a multi-state tour in August — the Climate Action Now: Great American Build Tour — which features at least 31 events across the country that bring attention to the opportunity to invest in clean energy jobs and take immediate climate action. In July, Climate Power and LCV launched a $10 million paid media campaign on TV, print and digital focused on 23 Members of Congress across 16 states to highlight the benefits of clean energy jobs as part of the Great American Build campaign. LCV alone has held 40 state events with members of Congress since May.  In June, LCV launched an $8 million field organizing effort with 15 new offices across 8 states (AZ, GA, MI, NV, NH, NJ, PA, VA) to highlight support for Congressional action on climate.
