Washington, D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) congratulates Senator Patty Murray and Representatives Suzan DelBene, Rick Larsen, Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, Derek Kilmer, Pramila Jayapal, and Kim Schrier on their wins in Washington.

“Since her first days in the Senate as a ‘mom in tennis shoes’ Senator Murray has been a tireless champion for the environment, clean energy, and protecting the beauty of her home state,” said LCV President Gene Karpinski. “Environmental protection is a part of what it means to be a Washingtonian and with Patty Murray back in the Senate, voters can be proud to have a champion fighting for them.”

LCV Victory Fund invested $375,000 on TV, digital, and mail supporting Kim Schrier (WA-08) including $62,000 as part of the Climate Voters Mobilization campaign with Climate Power Action. We also named Senator Murray’s opponent Tiffany Smiley to the 2022 Dirty Dozen, a list of the nation’s worst candidates for the environment and democracy. Additionally, LCV Victory Fund and EDF Action Votes ran a TV ad in WA-08 highlighting Matt Larkin’s extremist views.

Representative Schrier also ran ads (“Squeeze”) pushing back on the oil industry, vowing to hold them accountable for price gouging customers.

LCV’s GreenRoots member mobilization program turned out LCV members to volunteer for the Murray and Schrier campaigns as part of a nationwide field program to help elect environmental champions that engaged 8,250 total LCV members.

Environmental donors contributed $370,000 to Washington candidates via GiveGreen. GiveGreen — a partnership between LCV Victory Fund and NRDC Action Votes that helps grassroots donors directly contribute to pro-environment candidates — raised a midterm record $26.9 million for the 2022 cycle.

These are just some of the climate champions who won up and down the ballot in Washington, demonstrating that leaning into environmental issues is both good policy and good politics.
