Washington, D.C. — Following Mark Kelly’s swearing in as Arizona’s new U.S. Senator, LCV released the following statement from Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld:

“With two pro-environment Democratic Senators representing the Grand Canyon State for the first time in 70 years, today is a turning point for Arizonans’ health and wellbeing. We are over the moon to have Senator Kelly on the job in Washington, fighting for climate action and environmental justice for Arizona’s low income communities and communities of color that are disproportionately impacted by toxic air pollution. We look forward to working with Sen. Kelly as he delivers on his campaign promises to combat the climate crisis, continue our transition to clean energy, and create thousands of good-paying jobs in Arizona.”

LCV Victory Fund invested $1.7 million to defeat Martha McSally and elect Mark Kelly. The spending included two persuasion television ads that ran in Phoenix this summer. The ads highlighted McSally’s support from oil and gas polluters and her votes to gut clean air protections. LCV Victory Fund also ran a GOTV field program in Arizona including calls and texts to Arizonans encouraging them to turn out in support of Mark Kelly. LCV’s GreenRoots member mobilization program turned out LCV members to volunteer for the Kelly campaign as part of a nationwide field program to help elect environmental champions that engaged nearly 2,600 LCV members. Through GiveGreen, a joint project of LCV Victory Fund, NextGen America and NRDC Action Fund PAC, donors raised and contributed over $640,000 directly to Kelly’s campaign.
