Washington D.C. – Today, the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) released the following statement from LCV President Gene Karpinski ahead of the expected Senate Judiciary Committee vote to advance the nomination of Amy Coney Barrett to the U.S. Supreme Court:

“The decision by Senate Republicans to move forward with this nomination today further cements their commitment to partisan power grabs over addressing the needs of our communities. Rather than listening to the tens of millions who have already cast their ballots, they are rushing to confirm an ultraconservative nominee who thinks climate change is up for “public debate,” and refuses to answer basic questions about upholding democratic principles and fundamental rights.

“We thank Leader Schumer and Judiciary Committee Democrats for boycotting the vote and refusing to provide legitimacy to this sham nomination process. They are right to focus on what’s at risk under a 6-3 conservative supermajority on the Court, and the many crises facing our country as families across the country continue to suffer because Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans are standing in the way of meaningful COVID relief.”
