Washington, DC: In response to the EPA’s decision to withdraw the preemptive veto of the proposed Pebble Mine in Alaska, the League of Conservation Voters issued the following statement from Deputy Legislative Director, Madeleine Foote:

“Nothing about the situation has changed since the Obama administration proposed their veto of the Pebble Mine—Bristol Bay would be irreversibly damaged by the dangerous and dirty project. What is different, however, is that we now have an administration that is committed to selling our public lands and waters off to the highest bidders and cares little for the damage it will do to our environment. This irresponsible decision to allow the Pebble Mine to move forward threatens all the people, salmon, wildlife, and economies that depend on the Bristol Bay watershed and we will do everything possible to work with our allies in Alaska, across the nation, and in Congress to stop this disastrous project.”
