LCV Statement on House Passage of Bill Lifting the Crude Oil Export Ban

Oct 9, 2015

Washington, DC – In response to the House passing legislation today that would lift the 40-year ban on crude oil exports, League of Conservation Voters Vice President of Government Affairs Sara Chieffo released this statement:

“Today’s vote once again makes clear that the radical leadership of the U.S. House of Representatives is more concerned with lining the pockets of Big Oil than standing up for American families. Lifting the 40-year old ban on exporting crude oil is a massive giveaway to polluters and this would be on top of the billions they already get from permanent taxpayer-funded subsidies. Thankfully, the Administration has already threatened to veto this destructive bill. At a time when record droughts, damaging floods, and devastating wildfires serve as daily reminders of the real costs of climate change, Congress should be advancing policies that hasten the transition to clean energy, like wind and solar, not doubling down on dirty fossil fuels.”
