Washington, D.C. — LCV Victory Fund today released a new TV ad highlighting why Rep. Kevin Yoder (KS-03) is wrong for Kansas’s 3rd congressional district. The $347,000 ad, which will air in the Kansas City market for two weeks, focuses on Yoder’s votes to dismantle protections for clean air, clean water and health coverage for people with preexisting conditions.

Yoder also takes the fifth spot this year on the first-ever House Dirty Dozen list. For more than 20 years, the Dirty Dozen has featured some of the most anti-environment candidates running for office across the country who LCV Victory Fund is working to defeat.

“Kevin Yoder is a threat to Kansans’ public health,” said Pete Maysmith, LCV Victory Fund Senior Vice President for Campaigns. “He didn’t just vote for people with preexisting conditions like asthma to lose their health insurance, he also voted for dirtier air and water that would make people sicker. We have a real shot at replacing Yoder with someone who will stand up to polluters, and that’s why we’ve named him to the 2018 House Dirty Dozen.”

Yoder has consistently voted to dismantle protections for clean air and water. He has a lifetime environmental voting record of just 3 percent on LCV’s scorecard and a 0 percent for 2017. Yoder joined the Climate Solutions Caucus in July, but days later voted for an extreme fossil fuel-backed climate denial resolution. He also has a long history of questioning climate science.

LCV Action Fund has endorsed Sharice Davids for the seat, saying that Davids is “a fighter who knows what it takes to keep our air and water clean for Kansas families.” Davids would be the first LGBTQ Native American woman in Congress.
