Denver, Colorado — LCV Victory Fund today released its first general election television ad in a U.S. House race, exposing Rep. Mike Coffman (CO-06) and his record of siding with corporate polluters over public health throughout his decade in Congress. The $663,000 ad buy will air in the Denver market for two weeks.

WATCH: “Cough”

“Five-term congressman Mike Coffman has been in Congress so long that voters probably think they know him — but corporate polluters know him a lot better. Coffman has continually voted for more pollution, risking kids and seniors’ health as polluters profit,” said Pete Maysmith, LCV Victory Fund Senior Vice President for Campaigns. “Coffman couldn’t be more out of step with his district. Coloradans value clean air, clean water and our breathtaking public lands, but Coffman prioritizes the polluters who pay for his campaigns.”

Coffman has received $829,944 from the fossil fuel industry and has repeatedly voted to dismantle protections for clean air and water. He has a lifetime environmental voting record of just 5 percent on LCV’s scorecard, and has voted with Trump 96 percent of the time — making him the most Trump-supporting member of Congress in the Colorado delegation.

In 2016, Coffman was named to LCV’s signature “Dirty Dozen” list of the most anti-environmental candidates in the country. Despite joining the bipartisan Climate Solutions Caucus last year, Coffman has continued to vote against climate solutions — most recently, he supported an extreme fossil fuel-backed climate denial resolution and has been silent on the pro-coal energy plan that Trump’s own EPA admits could result in 1,400 more premature deaths each year. Coffman even voted to block its lifesaving predecessor, the Clean Power Plan.

LCV Victory Fund recently named Coffman one if its top targets for at least $15 million the group plans to invest in retaking a green majority in the U.S. House of Representatives. LCV Victory Fund plans to run significant programs in at least 25 targeted congressional districts, including Colorado’s 6th.

LCV Action Fund has endorsed Army veteran Jason Crow for the seat, saying that Crow is “committed to addressing the serious environmental challenges we face head on.”

A script of the ad can be found below, and research backup is available here.

“Cough”

Think you know Mike Coffman?

Corporate polluters know him better.

Mike Coffman took over $800,000 from polluters … then voted to let them spew dangerous toxins into our air and water.

Which could lead to more cancer, asthma, and heart and lung disease.

And who does Coffman vote with 96 percent of the time? The worst polluter of all.

Vote no on Mike Cough-man. Take the cough out of Congress.
