Utica, New York  – LCV Victory Fund announced today that Rep. Claudia Tenney (NY-22) has been named to the signature Dirty Dozen list of the most anti-environmental candidates running for office nationwide. The announcement comes the same week that LCV Victory Fund launched a new TV ad exposing how Tenney sides with corporate special interests over public health.

“It is so disappointing to see this area now represented in Congress by someone who does not uphold this region’s conservation values,” said former Congressman Sherwood Boehlert, Vice-Chair of the League of Conservation Voters board, and the Utica-born retired Republican Congressman who represented the area for nearly 25 years.

For more than 20 years, the Dirty Dozen has featured some of the most anti-environment candidates running for office across the country — and this year, the list has been expanded to reflect our biggest ever investment in House races.

During her first term in Congress, Tenney has earned a failing 6 percent score on LCV’s  National Environmental Scorecard, which is widely considered the gold standard for evaluating members of Congress’ record of voting for — or against — environmental protection. A score of 6 percent means that Tenney has voted against protections for New York’s environment and public health nearly every single time a significant environmental vote has come to the floor of the U.S. Congress.

LCV Victory Fund has invested $710,000 in a TV ad against Tenney that is running in the Binghamton, Syracuse and Utica markets through Election Day.

“Claudia Tenney puts corporate special interests ahead of her constituents’ public health,” said Pete Maysmith, LCV Victory Fund Senior Vice President for Campaigns. “She voted to gut protections for people with pre-existing conditions like diabetes and asthma, while letting corporate polluters spew more toxins into our air and water. Central New York deserves better.”

LCV Action Fund and the New York League of Conservation Voters have endorsed Anthony Brindisi to represent New York’s 22nd congressional district, citing his proven record as a champion of clean air and water.
