WASHINGTON, DC –To harness the incredible energy of climate activists since the election, a coalition of environmental and women’s groups will offer a free training to pro-environment women who want to run for office on April 30, the day after the People’s Climate March in Washington, DC.

Since election night, over 10,000 women have sought EMILY’s List help in running for office – an unprecedented response in the organization’s 32-year history. The day after the Women’s March alone, they trained 500 women.

Run to Win 101 Environmental Candidate Training will be led by EMILY’s List, along with the League of Conservation Voters, NextGen Climate, Sierra Club, Rachel’s Network, Emerald Cities, Environmental Defense Action Fund, Green For All Action Fund, GreenLatinos, Emerge America, Latino Victory Fund, LaunchProgress PAC, NRDC Action Fund, and ROSA PAC.

The training focuses on women for good reason. A new report from Rachel’s Network, “When Women Lead,” found that women in Congress vote for environmental protection more often than male legislators.

“Our report shows that if we care about the environment, we must help elect more women to office,” said Rachel’s Network Board Chair Kef Kasdin.

“Women’s leadership is needed now more than ever to fight back against an extreme agenda that puts our communities in peril,” said Muthoni Wambu Kraal, Vice President of National Outreach and Training at EMILY’s List.

“Our members are fired up by recent attacks on our environment by Trump and Congress,” said LCV Senior VP of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “We’re thrilled to offer this training for women who are ready to defend our climate and environment.”

“While the burdens of climate disruption reach women first and worst, women are more than victims, they’re leaders,” said Sierra Club PAC Director Sarah Burton. “We must elect those who will fight for clean air, clean water and a safe climate, and studies show, those people are women.”

“The Trump Administration has launched an attack on fundamental American rights, threatening everything from clean air to women’s reproductive rights,” said NextGen Climate President Tom Steyer. “It’s essential that women have every opportunity to run for office and defend our values.”

The free training will take place Sunday, April 30th in Washington, DC. To apply, fill out the form at: https://bit.ly/runtowin430

The training will be open to the press, please RSVP to craig_auster@lcv.org.
