Portrait of Representative Delia Ramirez.

Delia Ramirez has been a champion for climate action, environmental justice, and democracy during her time as an Illinois state representative.

Ramirez was born and raised in Chicago, and has been active in advocacy and community organizing throughout her career, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in justice studies from Northeastern Illinois University. She was the executive director of Center for Changing Lives, a nonprofit combating homelessness, for nine years before serving for three years as the president of the Latin United Community Housing Association. She was elected to the Illinois state Legislature in 2018, earning a 100% every year on the Illinois Environmental Council’s scorecard. She has refused to take campaign contributions from the fossil fuel industry and was an early cosponsor of the landmark Clean Energy Jobs Act, which will transition Illinois to 100% clean energy by 2045. Ramirez also fought for critical investments in walking and bicycle paths, reducing single-use plastics, and expanding vote-by-mail and public campaign financing.

As a representative, she will push to transition to a clean energy economy, increase funding for public transit, and expand affordable and efficient housing and buildings. Ramirez is the first Latina to represent Illinois, or any Midwestern state, in Congress.

Ramirez joins the U.S. House after winning in the new 3rd Congressional District.

In her own words:

“It is imperative that Congress takes immediate actions to stop polluters and transition to clean energy. We must create new jobs in a Green economy and reverse course on our climate crisis. I will make sure to stand up to corporations and polluters who put profit ahead of people. We deserve clean air and water and the time to act is now!”
