Supporting quotes:

  1. “The BMW Group announced a $1.7 billion investment in its United States operations, including $1 billion at Plant Spartanburg, and $700 million to build a new facility in Woodruff. This is the largest capital investment in South Carolina history, and it is right here in #SC04.” (Twitter)
  2. “Last week, @BMWUSA celebrated 25 years of production in the Upstate. When they arrived in 1992, they had 600 employees at the Spartanburg facility; today, that number is over 11,000. Thank you for the investment you have made in our community, BMW.” (Twitter)
  3. “5,000,000 vehicles manufactured right here in the Upstate of business-friendly South Carolina. Congratulations to @BMW’s Plant Spartanburg on this incredible milestone!” (Twitter)

For someone who has stood in opposition of the IRA and even tried to block a California law that would ban the sale of new gas cars, Representative William Timmons (SC-4) seems very excited about the electric vehicles being churned out of plants in South Carolina’s Fourth District. Timmons thanked BMW, which is pouring $1.7 billion (the “largest capital investment in South Carolina history”) into EV manufacturing facilities in Spartanburg and Woodruff for their “investment… in our community,” an investment that wouldn’t have taken place if not for the legislation he voted against.
