Jun 23, 2022

Courtnee Connon,

Washington D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect pro-environment candidates, announced today the endorsement of Delia Ramirez for election to the U.S. House of Representatives from Illinois’ 3rd Congressional District. If elected, she will be the first Latina to represent Illinois, or any Midwestern state, in Congress.

“Throughout her career in the state legislature, State Rep. Delia Ramirez has been a champion for climate action, environmental justice, and democracy and we know she will continue leading on these issues and a just and equitable transition to a clean energy future in Congress,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “It is more important than ever that we have representatives in Washington who will stand up for people over polluter profits and prioritize the health and well-being of our communities and our environment – we are thrilled to support Rep. Ramirez because we know she will do just that.”

“The stakes for addressing climate and environmental justice and creating good-paying clean energy jobs could not be higher – Representative Delia Ramirez is a leader who understands this and delivers,” said Illinois Environmental Council General Fund Executive Director Jennifer Walling. “After earning a perfect score on our scorecard, we are confident that Rep. Ramirez will continue to be a powerful leader for all communities and we would be proud to have her represent Illinois in Congress.”

“I am proud to be endorsed by the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund,” said State Rep. Delia Ramirez. “It is imperative that Congress takes immediate actions to stop polluters and transition to clean energy. We must create new jobs in a Green economy and reverse course on our climate crisis. I will make sure to stand up to corporations and polluters who put profit ahead of people. We deserve clean air and water and the time to act is now!”

State Representative Delia Ramirez was born and raised in Chicago. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in justice studies from Northeastern Illinois University and has been active in advocacy and community organizing throughout her career. From 2004 to 2013, she was the executive director of Center for Changing Lives, a nonprofit focused on the issue of homelessness. From 2016 to 2019, she was the president of the Latin United Community Housing Association. She was elected to the Illinois State Legislature in 2018 earning a 100 percent every year on the Illinois Environmental Council’s scorecard. During her campaigns, she has refused to take contributions from the fossil fuel industry and was an early co-sponsor of the landmark Clean Energy Jobs Act, which will transition Illinois to 100 percent clean energy by 2045. Ramirez also fought for critical investments in walking and bicycle paths and to reduce single-use plastics. She also co-sponsored legislation to create a small-donor public financing match and to expand vote-by-mail.
