ICYMI, earlier today the House Natural Resources Committee sent a bicameral and bipartisan letter to President Biden in support of the national 30×30 goal and engaging local stakeholders in that initiative. This letter comes at a time when momentum for the 30×30 initiative is widespread and growing.  Earlier this year, LCV released letters of support from mayors and state and local electeds from across the nation. And polling has consistently shown high levels of support for 30×30: A 2019 survey found that 86 percent of voters nationwide support a 30×30 goal, a January 2021 national poll registered 80% support for 30×30, and a separate January 2021 poll revealed 77% support for 30×30 among residents of western states.

The following statement on this bicameral letter and support of a locally-driven process to achieve 30×30 is attributable to Conservation Program Director Alex Taurel:

“We are thrilled to see President Biden making such a historic and ambitious commitment to conserve our lands and ocean and applaud Chairman Grijalva, Rep. Neguse and Senators Blumenthal and Luján for leading the way to support a locally-driven process to meet the national 30×30 goal. Achieving 30×30 gives us the opportunity to make access to nature in this country more inclusive and equitable and we are all-in to help reach and exceed this goal.”
