Washington D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect pro-environment candidates, and New York LCV announced their endorsements of Pat Ryan for election to the U.S. House of Representatives from New York’s 18th Congressional District.
“Representative Pat Ryan is a strong advocate for bold climate action and as Ulster County Executive fought for efforts that are critical to our transition to a clean energy future,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President for Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “Communities across the Hudson Valley know the devastating consequences of inaction on climate change all too well. Representative Pat Ryan is committed to investing in electrifying our public transportation and job training in green careers – and he stands up to corporate polluters so that all communities in New York can have a healthy environment. We are excited to support his campaign and we look forward to working with him to create a resilient climate for all communities.”
“Representative Pat Ryan is a proven leader in the environmental policy arena,” said Julie Tighe, President of the New York League of Conservation Voters. “As Ulster County Executive, Pat demonstrated that climate action on the local level is not only possible—it works; while his support for the Environmental Bond Act shows he understands the importance of providing our elected leaders the tools they need to preserve the environment and stem the tide of climate change. For these reasons and more, the NYLCV is thrilled to endorse Pat Ryan for congress.”
“I’m honored to have the support of the LCV Action Fund and New York LCV. Climate change is the greatest threat to our future and we must center it in our discourse,” said Representative Pat Ryan. “As County Executive, I saw firsthand what can happen when communities work together to address the climate crisis, from launching a green-careers academy, to electrifying our public bus network and expanding solar power Ulster County has been a leader. I’m excited to build on that work in Washington with incredible partners like the LCV Action Fund and New York LCV.”
Pat Ryan won an August special election for New York’s 19th Congressional District and is running for a full term to represent New York’s new 18th Congressional District. Ryan was born and raised in Kingston, New York, in the 18th District, where he graduated from the public school system and went on to graduate from the U.S. Military Academy in West Point. After serving two tours in Iraq and returning home to found a small technology company that built partnerships with government and nonprofit organizations, he was elected County Executive in Ulster County in a special election in 2019, earning 74 percent of the vote. He ran for office campaigning on a Green New Deal for Ulster County. After coming into office, he helped make the county a leader on climate action, committing to 100 percent renewable energy by 2030, buying the first electric buses in the county, and starting the Ulster County Green Careers Academy at SUNY Ulster.
