Washington D.C.- The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect pro-environment candidates, announced today its endorsement of Ben Ray Luján for election to the U.S. Senate in New Mexico.

“Representative Ben Ray Luján has been a tireless advocate for New Mexico’s growing renewable energy economy, and we know that he will continue to champion a transition to 100 percent clean energy in the Senate,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “Representative Luján knows how important it is to protect clean air and water and public health, and we enthusiastically endorse him for U.S. Senate.”

“Ben Ray Luján is a powerful voice for protecting New Mexico’s public lands and waters and the outdoor heritage we hold dear,” said Conservation Voters of New Mexico’s Deputy Director of Programs Molly Taylor. “We are excited to work with him in the Senate to protect our parks and support a clean energy economy here in New Mexico.”

“I’m honored to receive the endorsement of the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund. LCV has always been a steadfast partner as we champion ways to protect our environment and ensure we leave a better world for future generations,” said Representative Luján. “From stopping the desecration of Chaco Canyon to advancing bold solutions to transition our country to 100 percent clean energy, I am proud to work closely with these strong leaders.”

Before he was elected to Congress, Representative Ben Ray Luján served as Chair of the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission, where he worked to create a renewable portfolio standard and expand clean energy production. As a member of the House Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition and chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus’ Task Force on Green Economy and Renewable Energy, he has introduced numerous pieces of legislation that would promote solar energy and provide job training for the clean energy sector. In the Senate, Luján will continue fighting to protect public lands in New Mexico, including the Rio Grande Del Norte National Conservation Area. Representative Luján has earned a stellar 96% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.
