WASHINGTON, DC—The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, announced its endorsement of two candidates from Florida who are running for election to the U.S. House of Representatives: Stephanie Murphy (FL-7) and Susannah Randolph (FL-9).
“Stephanie Murphy and Susannah Randolph are the strong environmental allies Floridians need fighting for them in Washington,” said LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski. “They will work tirelessly to create good paying clean energy jobs while protecting Florida’s precious natural landscapes and waterways for our children and grandchildren.”
“By protecting Florida’s natural resources, we not only preserve our beautiful state for generations to come, but we also protect our economic way of life and the jobs that come with it,” said Stephanie Murphy. “When I am elected, I will be a strong advocate for our environment, for cleaner air and water, and for smart investments in green energy that both reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and make energy more affordable for Florida families.”
“I am honored to have the endorsement of the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund,” said Susannah Randolph. “I began my career leading efforts to stop drilling off Florida’s coastlines, working alongside groups like LCV who have been a powerful voice for our environment. That work inspired my years of advocacy, protecting and preserving our natural resources and waterways and fighting to combat climate change. I want my daughter, and all our children to grow up in a world that is safe and sustainable. In Congress, fighting to make that world a reality will be my top priority.”
Murphy, the daughter of immigrants and a first-generation college graduate, began her career as a strategy consultant at Deloitte Consulting. After 9/11, she went to graduate school to then join the Office of the Secretary of Defense as a national security specialist, working on issues from counterterrorism to foreign military relations to strategic planning, earning the Secretary of Defense Medal for Exceptional Civilian Service and other awards. Currently, she is an executive at SunGate Capital, where she leads investment efforts and government affairs. She also is a business and social entrepreneurship professor at Rollins College. Murphy is active in her local community, working with nonprofits that help economically challenged young women attend college and that make creative arts more accessible to local communities.
Susannah Randolph has spent her career as a community organizer, she got her start fighting for our environment. She worked for Florida PIRG, as state director for Clean Water Action and for the Wildlife Advocacy Project, which focuses on protecting manatees. As executive director of Florida Watch Action, she helped lead the successful Pink Slip Rick campaign targeting Gov. Rick Scott’s bad policies, and then served as district director for Florida’s 9th District. Randolph is making the environment a top priority in her campaign by advocating for the protection of the Everglades, calling for a ban on offshore drilling and fracking and promoting clean energy jobs in the wind, solar and wave energy industries.
Murphy and Randolph are featured on LCV Action Fund’s GiveGreen website, the only bundling website devoted exclusively to raising money for environmental champions for federal office.
