LCV Action Fund Endorses Congressman Bill Foster for Re-Election

Oct 21, 2014

WASHINGTON, DC—The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of Bill Foster for re-election to Congress (IL-11). Congressman Foster is an environmental ally who fights for policies to combat climate change, protect our clean air and water, and promote renewable energy.

“As a scientist and businessman, Congressman Bill Foster’s perspective is invaluable in fighting the most serious environmental challenge of today – climate change,” said LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski. “Congressman Foster’s dedication to reducing our reliance on harmful fossil fuels and cutting carbon pollution will safeguard our nation’s air and water and protect the health of Illinois families.”

“I’m proud to receive the endorsement of the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund and be an ally in the fight to combat climate change, protect our clean air and water, and promote renewable energy,” said Foster. “I believe that global warming is one of the most pressing environmental challenges facing us today and that’s why I am fighting to expand investment in research and development to improve energy efficiency and reduce our carbon footprint.”

For 25 years prior to being elected to Congress, Representative Foster worked as a physicist, during which time he helped discover the heaviest known form of matter, top quark. Additionally, at 19 years old he co-founded a business that now manufactures over half of the theater lighting equipment in the United States.  With a successful background in science and business, his extensive experience informs both his commitment to fighting climate change and his strong support of our clean energy economy.

Congressman Foster recognizes our need to address climate change. He opposes polluter-driven attacks on the Clean Air Act, and has voted against efforts to block the EPA’s Clean Power Plan, which would limit harmful carbon pollution and protect public health. He also supports investment in clean energy alternatives like solar power and wind energy, which will reduce our nation’s dependence on the dirty fossil fuels that cause climate change.

Congressman Foster’s voting record earned him an 89% score on LCV’s 2013 National Environmental Scorecard. The non-partisan Scorecard is the nationally accepted yardstick used to rate members of Congress on environmental and clean energy issues. Based on key environmental votes in the House and Senate, it is often used by the media to quickly describe a Member’s record. For more information, visit https://scorecard.lcv.org.
