WASHINGTON, DC—The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of Derek Kilmer for re-election to Congress (WA-6). Congressman Kilmer is an environmental champion who is committed to combating climate change, growing our clean energy economy and protecting our oceans.
“Congressman Derek Kilmer is a critical leader in our fight to tackle the challenge of our generation, climate change,” said LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski. “He is committed to working across the aisle to find commonsense solutions that protect our environment, create jobs and end our dependence on dirty fossil fuels.”
“Washington State has a strong tradition of electing leaders who fight to keep the air we breathe and water we drink clean and healthy,” said Shannon Murphy, President of Washington Conservation Voters. “Congressman Kilmer continues this proud legacy, with strong leadership on Puget Sound protection and recovery, through his work with the Puget Sound Recovery Caucus and the Save Our Sound Act. We know we can count on Congressman Kilmer to deliver results that protect our health, economy, and environment.”
“Growing up on the Olympic Peninsula I learned to value our region’s natural beauty and diverse wildlife,” said Kilmer. “I want that future for my two little girls as well. That’s why I am fighting to protect our natural resources while growing our economy, by protecting Puget Sound, combatting the impacts of climate change, and making sure that we are creating clean energy jobs. I’d like to thank the LCV and the LCVAF for all the work they do to make a brighter future for everyone.”
A member of the Safe Climate Caucus and the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC), Kilmer has continued to build on his strong environmental record from the Washington state legislature. He founded the Puget Sound Recovery Caucus and has worked to safeguard Washington’s fishing and shellfish industries by introducing bipartisan legislation that will help mitigate ocean acidification. Kilmer has worked to address the impacts of climate change by sponsoring a bill to help Native American tribes to access resources to protect and preserve coastal areas. He has been an outspoken advocate for our magnificent public land and reauthorizing the Land and Water Conservation Fund. Kilmer has introduced legislation to enhance protections in the Olympic National Forest, which will create jobs and protect these iconic Washington State forests and rivers for all to enjoy, and co-sponsored a bill to create a challenge fund to support key National Park System projects through public-private partnerships.
Kilmer has earned an 87 percent lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard. The non-partisan Scorecard is the nationally accepted yardstick used to rate members of Congress on environmental and clean energy issues. Based on key environmental votes in the House and Senate, it is often used by the media to quickly describe a Member’s record. For more information, visit https://scorecard.lcv.org.
Kilmer is featured on LCV Action Fund’s GiveGreen website, the only bundling website devoted exclusively to raising money for environmental champions for federal office.
