WASHINGTON, DC—The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of Steven Horsford for re-election to Congress (NV-4). Congressman Horsford is a leader who fights for policies to promote clean energy and energy efficiency, and values preservation of our public lands.
“With a decade of public service on behalf of Nevada, Congressman Steven Horsford is a leader who will continue to fight for our country’s vital public lands and help reduce our reliance on fossil fuels,” said LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski. “He’s ready to build coalitions and find bipartisan solutions that will grow our nation’s clean energy and outdoor recreation economies and protect the air and water in Nevada.”
“Congressman Horsford is a dedicated public servant who recognizes that investment in clean energy and preservation of our remarkable natural landscapes will keep Nevada’s families healthy and flourishing,” said Robert Buntjer, Board Chair for the Nevada Conservation League. “In his first term, Congressman Horsford has demonstrated his willingness to work on policies that would create jobs and protect the wellbeing of our communities and our environment.”
“I’m proud to receive the endorsement of the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund,” Horsford said. “The natural beauty of Nevada’s 4th Congressional District must be preserved, and I look forward to continuing to work on projects for the Silver State that prioritize both environmental protection and economic development, especially where Nevada can lead in renewable energy expansion.”
In both the Nevada State Senate and in the U.S. Congress, Representative Horsford has proven himself a leader on clean energy and energy efficiency. As Nevada’s first African-American state senate Majority Leader, Congressman Horsford wrote and helped pass the Clean Energy Jobs initiative, which funded training and jobs in renewable energy and energy efficiency for Nevadans. He also authored a bill to improve Nevada’s renewable energy standard. In the U.S. Congress, he consistently advocates for clean energy and supports the EPA’s Clean Power Plan, which will limit harmful carbon pollution and protect public health.
Congressman Horsford is also a strong advocate for our nation’s public lands. He has introduced and cosponsored several bills to expand public land designations in Nevada including the wilderness and economic development package that recently passed the House.
