The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of Suzanne Bonamici for Congress (OR-1).
“Suzanne Bonamici has proven she is a hard-working environmental leader who we can trust to protect our health and our environment,” said LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski. “As a member of the Safe Climate Caucus and the top Democrat on the House Science Subcommittee on Environment, she has helped lead the charge against radical attacks on our bedrock environmental protections. Whether protecting the Columbia River Basin or the Arctic, helping coastal communities deal with the threats of climate change, or investing more in clean energy, Congresswoman Bonamici fights for what’s best for Oregonians and our country.”
“Over years of experience in both the Oregon Legislature and U.S. House of Representatives, Congresswoman Bonamici has always looked out for the environmental concerns and needs of her constituents,” said Oregon League of Conservation Voters Executive Director Doug Moore. “Congresswoman Bonamici has proven, time and again, an irreplaceable ally, always ready to advocate for Oregon’s clean air, water, wildlife and lands we hold dear. All Oregonians need her continued leadership in Congress.”
“It’s an honor to have the support of the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund as we work to protect the environment for future generations,” said Congresswoman Bonamici. “Although much of my time in Congress has been spent standing up to climate change deniers and challenging irresponsible attacks on science, I remain committed to moving us toward a comprehensive national energy policy that reduces our reliance on fossil fuels, cuts our carbon emissions, and invests in new clean energy technologies. That’s what Oregonians want, and it’s what our country and planet need.”
Congresswoman Bonamici is firmly committed to fighting climate change and growing our clean energy economy. As the lead Democrat on the Science Committee’s Environment Subcommittee, she has led the charge against harmful policies that would prevent the EPA, NSF, and NOAA from protecting our forests, oceans, and planet. She supports legislation to end subsidies for big oil, and she’s advocated for the extension of the wind production tax credit (PTC). In 2015, she voted for the continuation of renewable energy tax credits that are critical to moving toward a new energy future.
Bonamici’s voting record has earned her an impressive lifetime score of 97% on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard. The non-partisan Scorecard is the nationally accepted yardstick used to rate members of Congress on environmental and clean energy issues. Based on key environmental votes in the House and Senate, it is often used by the media to quickly describe a Member’s record. For more information, visit https://scorecard.lcv.org.
