LCV Action Fund Endorses Debbie Mucarsel-Powell for Senate

Sep 28, 2023

Washington D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect pro-environment candidates, announced today the endorsement of Debbie Mucarsel-Powell for election to the U.S. Senate representing Florida.

“Representative Debbie Mucarsel-Powell has a fantastic record of championing environmental justice in a state at the forefront of the climate crisis,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “We know that Debbie Mucarsel-Powell will prioritize the health and rights of Florida communities over polluters and special interests, especially communities of color and communities with low wealth who carry the greatest burden from extreme weather and pollution. LCV Action Fund is thrilled to endorse Mucarsel-Powell’s campaign for Senate to protect our rights to clean water, clean air, and a free and fair democracy.”

“The climate crisis is here in Florida, and this summer’s unprecedented extreme heat, coral bleaching, fish kills, toxic algal blooms and more are all clear signs that we need leaders who will fight for climate action and environmental justice,” said Florida Conservation Voters Executive Director Aliki Moncrief. “Representative Debbie Mucarsel-Powell understands this and has a clear track record of championing our clean air, clean water and coastal economies.”

“I’m honored and excited by this endorsement. In Florida, our environment is at the heart of everything, from the health of our children to the strength of our economy,” said Representative Debbie Mucarsel-Powell. “Floridians deserve a Senator with a record of protecting our environment and taking on the special interests who put partisanship and profits ahead of our environment. In Congress, I was proud to work across the aisle to deliver funding for Everglades restoration and take on climate change. In the Senate, I’ll make sure Floridians are ready to face the challenges of a warming climate — unlike Rick Scott, who banned saying the words ‘climate change’ — and make sure that our environment will still be just as vibrant for our children and the next generations.”

About Debbie Mucarsel-Powell

During her time in Congress, former U.S. Representative Debbie Mucarsel-Powell was “a leading freshman voice on environmental issues, especially water policy,” according to E&E News. She served as the vice chair of the Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Water Resources and the Environment, introduced legislation to protect coral reefs and secured $200 million in annual funding for restoration of the Everglades.
