Washington, D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect pro-environment candidates, announced today its endorsement of Deborah Ross for election to the U.S. House from North Carolina’s 2nd Congressional District.
“We are thrilled to endorse longtime environmental champion Deborah Ross for Congress,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “As a state legislator and a clean energy attorney, Ross understands the urgent need to fight the climate crisis, grow North Carolina’s economy by investing in our clean energy future and protect the Tar Heel State’s natural beauty from the coast to the mountains. Her experience and passion are needed in Congress now more than ever, and we look forward to working together to address climate change.”
“Deborah Ross has been a critical partner in our efforts to protect our state’s beautiful environment and grow our clean energy future,” said North Carolina LCV Director of Governmental Relations Dan Crawford. “North Carolina families know they can count on her to always fight for their interests and that protecting the health of our communities is her top priority. We are excited to continue our important work together to address climate change, protect our water and more.”
“I’m honored to receive the endorsement of LCV Action Fund. LCV has been a champion in the fight for our environment and in supporting those who care about future generations and the future of our planet,” said Deborah Ross. “Climate change is one of the most imminent threats facing our country, and we must take immediate action to address it. As a member of North Carolina’s state legislature I voted repeatedly to support clean energy, oppose fracking, and helped to grow our state’s clean energy sector, creating tens of thousands of jobs. I look forward to standing up for these issues in Congress and making combating climate change a top priority.”
A former state representative, Ross was a consistent environmental champion during her ten years in the General Assembly. She voted repeatedly to increase clean energy, address climate change, and protect North Carolina’s land, air and water. In her final term, she opposed legislation to roll back years of energy conservation work and supported a bill preventing manufacturers from deceiving customers about the biodegradability of their products. Her efforts earned her a 94% lifetime score on North Carolina LCV’s Legislative Scorecard. As an attorney in private practice, she has worked with renewable energy companies to get certified by the Utilities Commission, helping to negotiate purchase agreements. As General Counsel at Triangle Transit, she worked hard to bring light rail and commuter rail to the region. In Congress, she will continue this leadership by working to increase investments in clean energy and diverse transportation, and address the impacts of climate change. Ross is dedicated to protecting North Carolina’s clean air, water and land, including from the threat of offshore drilling.
