Washington D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect pro-environment candidates, announced its endorsement of Dr. Ami Bera for re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives from California’s 7th Congressional District.
“Representative Ami Bera understands the health risks posed by climate change and has been a critical ally fighting for public health and safeguarding environmental protections,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “We are proud to support him for re-election — especially now as the state battles dangerous wildfires fueled by climate change — because we know he will continue to work to preserve California’s treasured public lands and advocate for just and equitable climate solutions that will protect the health and safety of all communities.”
“Representative Ami Bera is a fierce advocate for California’s environment, economy, and communities in Congress and we are proud to support him,” said Mike Young, Political & Organizing Director for CLCV. “He has consistently voted to reduce harmful air and water pollution and invest in clean energy solutions that center on public health and job creation pushing us toward a cleaner and healthier future.”
“I am proud to earn the endorsement of the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund. As the impacts of climate change become more and more evident, it is critical we come together as a nation to find workable solutions,” said Congressman Ami Bera, M.D. “In my home state of California, annual record-setting temperatures, devastating droughts, and a year-round fire season are now standard. I will continue to work with the League of Conservation Voters to push for meaningful legislation that protects our environment and brings about a sustainable future.”
Representative Ami Bera has been serving California’s 7th Congressional District since 2013. He is a member of the House Climate Solutions Caucus. The fiscal year 2020 appropriations bills included two amendments by Representative Bera, which increase funding for levee protection and repairs and support reliable access to a clean water supply. He has been at the forefront of efforts to address California’s drought, including making the link between the drought and climate change, and has spoken out against drought legislation that would undermine the Endangered Species Act and other environmental laws. Bera previously was a physician and Chief Medical Officer for Sacramento County. Representative Bera has earned a 93% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.
