Washington D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect pro-environment candidates, announced its endorsement of Hakeem Jeffries for re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives from New York’s 8th Congressional District.
“Chairman Hakeem Jeffries has been a leader for environmental justice since his time in the New York Assembly when he fought to protect children from toxic chemicals,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “In Congress, he has consistently fought for fair and just policies that protect the health and safety of our communities and we are thrilled to support him for re-election as he continues to be a changemaker in Congress.”
“Congressmember Hakeem Jeffries is committed to defending our environmental values and advancing a climate action agenda that is fair and just,” said Julie Tighe, President of the New York League of Conservation Voters. “Not only did he get a nearly perfect score on the 2019 National Environmental Scorecard, he also helped provide relief to New Yorkers from the devastating impacts of Hurricane Sandy and supports legislation to protect endangered species. We are proud to endorse him in his re-election and we urge voters in Congressional District 8 to cast their ballots for him on Election Day.”
“I am proud to have the support of the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund during such a critical time for our country,” said Chairman Hakeem Jeffries. “LCV is a leading champion for protecting public health, building a clean energy future and addressing the existential climate crisis. I look forward to working together to advance these critical objectives through Congress and making the world a better place for future generations.”
Chairman Hakeem Jeffries was first elected to Congress in 2012. He serves as Democratic Caucus Chair and is a former Whip of the Congressional Black Caucus. He sponsored H.R. 3979, the Keep America’s Refuges Operational Act, which was signed into law in late 2018 and protects wildlife by reauthorizing the National Wildlife Refuge System’s volunteer and education programs. Before being elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, Hakeem served for six years in the New York State Assembly, where he championed many of the same civil liberty issues he continues to promote today. Prior to his career in public service, Hakeem practiced law and served as litigation counsel. He received his bachelor’s degree at the State University of New York at Binghamton, earned a master’s degree in public policy from Georgetown University and graduated magna cum laude at the New York University School of Law.

Since the 1990 election cycle, LCVAF has helped elect and re-elect 90 U.S. Senators and 450 members of the U.S. House of Representatives. Over the last several years, our efforts have also helped elevate climate change and clean energy as critical issues in key elections.
