LCV Action Fund Endorses James Piotrowski for Congress

Jun 25, 2016

WASHINGTON, DC— The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of James Piotrowski for Congress (ID-1). Piotrowski is dedicated to protecting our majestic natural treasures and open spaces for all to enjoy.

“James Piotrowski is passionate about ensuring that our public lands stay public, and he will bring this unwavering commitment to Congress,” said LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski.  “He will fight to safeguard our open spaces while working to grow our clean energy economy and create good paying jobs in Idaho and across the country.”

“Idaho’s public lands aren’t just places to hunt and fish, to earn a livelihood, or to provide habitat for fish, birds and wildlife,” said Piotrowski. “These are places that many of us go to raise our kids, to reconnect with each other, and to celebrate those things that make Idaho home and America great. Public lands must remain in public hands.”

James Piotrowski is an attorney in Boise, Idaho, where he focuses on labor law, civil rights and disability law. He is a member of Trout Unlimited where he served as the chair of the Idaho Trout Unlimited State Council. During his tenure at Trout Unlimited, Piotrowski worked tirelessly to protect Idaho’s public lands, he fought against the development of irresponsible and unsafe mining proposals in the Boise River headwaters and participated in several river habitat restoration projects. He also founded and was a primary organizer of a youth conservation camp where kids went fly fishing and learned about conservation. On the campaign trail, he is making public lands and clean energy a top priority.

In contrast, incumbent Congressman Raul Labrador is a member of the Federal Lands Action Group, which advocates for the transfer of federal lands to state and private owners. As a member of the House Committee on Natural Resources, he has sponsored legislation, the Self-Sufficient Community Lands Act, which would allow for the transfer of millions of acres of public lands over to state control, where they could potentially be industrialized or sold off to the highest bidder. Congressman Raul Labrador has earned an abysmal 6 percent lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard. The non-partisan Scorecard is a nationally accepted yardstick used to rate members of Congress on environmental and clean energy issues. Based on key environmental votes in the House and Senate, it is often used by the media to quickly describe a Member’s record. For more information, visit https://scorecard.lcv.org

Piotrowski is featured on LCV Action Fund’s GiveGreen website, the only bundling website devoted exclusively to raising money for environmental champions for federal office.
