LCV Action Fund Endorses James Walkinshaw for U.S. House of Representatives

Sep 4, 2025

Washington D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will fight to build a clean energy economy and strengthen our democracy for all, announced today the endorsement of James Walkinshaw for election to the U.S. House of Representatives representing Virginia’s 11th district in the upcoming special election.

“Across Virginia and the country, families are struggling with the rising costs of energy and the climate crisis, but James Walkinshaw has the leadership needed to ensure we protect our communities, our environment, and future generations,” said LCV Action Fund Vice President of Political Affairs Craig Auster. “With his impressive record working in local and federal government, James Walkinshaw is an experienced, proven climate champion who we need now more than ever as the Trump administration and Congress sell out our future to Big Oil. LCV Action Fund is thrilled to support his campaign.”

“Virginians understand that to bring down energy costs and protect our environment, we must continue to invest in clean energy and that is what James Walkinshaw has done in Fairfax County,” said Virginia LCV Executive Director Mike Town. “We know that in Congress he will always put our Commonwealth first, fight for lower costs and to address the climate crisis.”

“I’m honored to have the support of the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund, a national leader in the fight for our planet,” said Fairfax County Supervisor James Walkinshaw. “Fairfax families see the ugly environmental impacts of Trump’s so-called Big Beautiful Bill, and we must defend our communities from these harmful policies. Now more than ever, we must stand shoulder to shoulder in our shared mission to confront the climate crisis, grow clean energy jobs, reduce energy costs, and secure a healthier, more sustainable future for every family. With LCVAF by our side in Congress, we can take on this fight and win a better future.”

About James Walkinshaw
James Walkinshaw serves as Chair of both the Board of Supervisors’ Legislative Committee and Environmental Committee, where he leads Fairfax County’s efforts to address Richmond’s underfunding of public education and to address climate change. He also leads the Fairfax County-City of Fairfax interjurisdictional committee, where he has built new partnerships between the county and city, benefiting residents of both. As Chair of the VRE Operations Board, he worked to expand rail service and institute VRE’s first-ever Saturday service. He currently serves as Chair of the National Capital Region Transportation Planning Board, our region’s federally-designated Metropolitan Planning Organization, where he is leading the development of our region’s transportation plan. As Chair of the Board’s Environmental Committee, he has led efforts to transition County buildings to solar energy, convert the vehicle fleet to electric, and empower residents to reduce their carbon footprint. He spearheaded implementation of Fairfax’s five-cent plastic bag fee, which has already raised millions to support litter prevention while dramatically reducing plastic pollution. He is also leading the County’s Zero Waste initiative to reduce landfill waste and make sustainability a core principle of local government. Additionally, during more than a decade of service as Chief of Staff to Congressman Gerry Connolly, James oversaw all aspects of the Congressman’s office and served as his chief adviser on a host of issues, working closely with state and local officials.
