Washington, D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will support sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of Jessica Morse for Congress in California’s 4th District.

“Jessica Morse has deep roots in the Sierra and knows that conservation and a strong economy go hand in hand,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “As a lifelong lover of the outdoors, she is committed to standing against efforts to eliminate protections for our most treasured places, addressing the climate crisis that is fueling devastating fires, and increasing clean energy jobs. Californians can count on her to be a champion for their environment, health and safety and we are thrilled to endorse her campaign.”

“The choice in this race could not be more clear,” said California League of Conservation Voters CEO Mary Creasman. “We know Jessica Morse will be an environmental champion who will protect and preserve the natural wilderness we love like the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Lake Tahoe, and Yosemite. Her opponent, meanwhile, has one of the worst environmental records in Congress and has worked to rollback protections for our national parks and open spaces even as wildfires become more frequent and more intense.“

“I am honored to have the support of LCV Action Fund, which works to protect America’s sacred landscapes for generations to come. We must fight to sustain the land that sustains us,” said Jessica Morse. “Our community deserves better than Tom McClintock, a representative who sees the health of our environment as disconnected from the health of our economy. Our neighbors know that when our public lands are threatened, our forests are on fire, and our snowfall suffers, our economy is put at risk. I’ll fight to make sure our local jobs and environment are sustained for generations to come.”

Jessica Morse was born and raised in Nevada County, California, on hundreds of acres of forestland her ancestors pioneered five generations earlier. Morse received her bachelor’s degree from Principia College and a master’s degree in public affairs, international relations and national security studies from Princeton University. She started her career in national security as an information officer and national capacity development coordinator at USAID. She then moved to the U.S. Department of State as the Iraq Country Coordinator. After State, she worked for the Congressional Commission for Wartime Contracting, as a Presidential Management Fellow at the U.S. Pacific Command, working on India strategy, and later returned to USAID in 2012 as a program analyst. Morse was raised backpacking, fishing and hunting and has hiked the entire length of the 4th Congressional District. In Congress, her top environmental priorities will be defending public lands, investing in clean energy jobs and reducing the pollution fueling climate change.
