Washington, D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will support sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of Representative Jim McGovern for re-election in Massachusetts’ 2nd Congressional District.
“Jim McGovern has been one of the most consistent voices for the environment we’ve had in Congress, and we are proud to endorse him for re-election,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “Now more than ever, we need fighters like him in Congress to defend our bedrock environmental laws from the Trump administration’s relentless attacks.”
“Representative Jim McGovern has been a tireless champion for the environment here in Massachusetts, and in the nation’s capital,” said Environmental League of Massachusetts Action Fund Executive Director Joe O’Brien. “He has spent the last two decades fighting for clean air and water, clean energy, our nation’s public lands, and for action to address the global challenge of climate change.”
“I am so thankful to earn the endorsement of the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund,” said Representative Jim McGovern “The election of Donald Trump has empowered climate change deniers, big oil, big coal, and polluters. I think the American people are horrified by what this administration is doing to our environment. I’m proud to fight alongside LCV to defend our clean water and clean air, protect our public lands and endangered species, and combat global climate change. The stakes are too high for us to sit back or remain silent, and I know that working together, we can build the movement necessary to protect our planet’s future.”
Since he was first elected to the U.S. House in 1996, Representative Jim McGovern has been a champion for healthy and sustainable communities. As a member of the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition and the Renewable Energy and Efficiency Caucus he has advocated for strong environmental protections and our public lands. He was an original cosponsor of H.R. 502, which would permanently reauthorize our nation’s best parks program, the Land and Water Conservation Fund. During his time in Congress McGovern has earned an outstanding 99 percent lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.
