Washington D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect pro-environment candidates, announced its endorsement of Jimmy Panetta for re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives from California’s 20th Congressional District.
“Representative Jimmy Panetta has been a strong voice for climate action and protecting California’s public parks, like Monterey Bay and Pinnacles National Park, and pristine coast from the dangers of offshore oil drilling,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “We are thrilled to support him for re-election because we know he will continue to fight for a clean energy economy and the health of his constituents.”
“The League of Conservation Voters Action Fund and their millions of members and affiliates are doing critical work to ensure environmental protections, and I am honored to receive their endorsement of my campaign,” said Congressman Jimmy Panetta. “I want to thank LCV Action Fund not only for this endorsement, but also for their tireless efforts to address climate change, promote clean water, protect endangered species, preserve our oceans, ensure environmental justice, and so much more to help protect this planet.”
“Since he was elected, Congressman Panetta has been fighting Big Oil, defending climate regulations, and pushing for a transition to a clean energy future,” said Mike Young, CLCV Political & Organizing Director. “We need more champions like Congressman Panetta, who, as a former service member himself, understands the global and geopolitical crisis already unfolding thanks to climate impacts, and has taken steps to try to defend and push action on a broad scale.”
Representative Jimmy Panetta was elected to represent California’s 20th Congressional District in 2016. He is strongly committed to addressing climate change and supports quickly pivoting from fossil fuels to clean energy and protecting California’s coastline. Representative Panetta has authored, introduced, and cosponsored multiple pieces of legislation that block oil drilling in our oceans and public lands and cut carbon emissions. His father, former Representative Leon Panetta, authored the legislation that established the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, and Jimmy Panetta currently serves as a member of the sanctuary’s Advisory Council. Panetta previously served as a prosecutor, Deputy District Attorney, and as an officer in the United States Navy Reserve. He has earned a 96% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.

The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, the connected federal political action committee (PAC) of the League of Conservation Voters, works to elect leaders who stand up for a clean, healthy environment and to defeat anti-environment candidates who oppose climate action. Since the 1990 election cycle, LCVAF has helped elect and re-elect 90 U.S. Senators and 450 members of the U.S. House of Representatives. Over the last several years, our efforts have also helped elevate climate change and clean energy as critical issues in key elections.
