Washington, D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect pro-environment candidates, announced its endorsement of Joyce Beatty for re-election to the U.S. House from Ohio’s 3rd Congressional District.
“Representative Joyce Beatty has been a strong environmental ally in Congress and understands the need for bold and equitable action on the climate crisis,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittnefeld. “We are proud to support her for re-election and work together in the fight for a clean energy future.”
“Representative Joyce Beaty has been fighting for Ohio’s communities during her time in Columbus and now in Washington,” said President of the Ohio Environmental Council Action Fund Heather Taylor-Miesle. “We know Representative Joyce Beatty will continue to defend Ohioans’ fundamental rights to clean air, safe drinking water, vibrant public lands, and a healthy environment as she has done throughout her career.”
“I am proud to have the support and endorsement of the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund,” said Representative Joyce Beatty. “Since being elected in 2012 I have been a consistent voice in support of addressing the climate crisis and in support of environmental justice. I will continue to stand up, speak out and get things done and I am proud to have LCV Action Fund’s support as I continue the fight.”
Since being elected in 2012, Representative Joyce Beatty has proudly represented the Third Congressional District of Ohio. This Congress, Representative Beatty has cosponsored legislation to protect the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, the Grand Canyon, and the 100% Clean Economy Act to set a national goal of a clean energy economy no later than 2050. She secured $40 million for the Smart City Challenge to make Central Ohio a national leader in creating and harnessing the power of innovative transportation technology. Representative Beatty is an influential member of the Congressional Black Caucus, Women’s Caucus, Democratic Seniors Task Force, and Deputy Vice-Chair of the Congressional Voting Rights Caucus. Prior to her service in the U.S. House of Representatives, she served the 27th District in the Ohio House of Representatives beginning in 1999. She served five terms in the Ohio General Assembly, and rose to become the first female Democratic House Leader in Ohio’s history. In the Ohio House, she was instrumental in passing legislation that improved the climate for economic development in the state. After leaving the Ohio House in 2008, Representative Beatty joined The Ohio State University as senior vice president of outreach and engagement where she promoted community, business and economic development, advocated for healthcare collaborations, and led the University’s global initiatives. Representative Beatty graduated with a B.A. from Central State University, received her M.S. degree from Wright State University, and completed all but her dissertation for a doctorate at the University of Cincinnati. Representative Joyce Beatty’s voting record has earned her an impressive 96% on LCV’s 2019 National Environmental Scorecard and an excellent lifetime score of 95%.
