Washington D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect pro-environment candidates, announced its endorsement of Majority Leader Chuck Schumer for re-election to the U.S. Senate representing New York.
“Thanks to Majority Leader Chuck Schumer the U.S. Senate passed the biggest investment in climate action, clean energy and environmental justice ever ,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “Senator Schumer’s leadership was essential to this historic victory and because of his tireless efforts, we finally have the chance to reduce our climate emissions and cut toxic pollution at the scale and pace that science and justice demand. The entire world is grateful that Senator Schumer never gave up on getting the Inflation Reduction Act passed, and LCV looks forward to continuing our work together in the Senate to implement the IRA and build on this transformational progress.”
“I am proud to receive the endorsement of the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund,” said Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. “They are a force throughout the country for enlightened principles and policies and supporting the best candidates to move forward against climate change and for clean energy. LCVAF is a great leader in electing leaders that enact real change to protect our environment. Because of their work, America is closer to achieving clean water, clear air, and a safe climate for all communities. I look forward to working with the League of Conservation Voters to move forward progressive policies that protect our environment.”
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer is running for a fifth term representing New York in the U.S. Senate. He previously spent three terms in the New York State Assembly and nine terms in the U.S. House of Representatives. He became Senate Democratic Leader in 2016 and was elevated to Senate Majority Leader in January 2021. As Senate Leader, Schumer has delivered ambitious action on climate change, leading the Senate to pass the Inflation Reduction Act, which invests nearly $370 billion in clean energy and environmental justice, putting the U.S. on track to reduce emissions by nearly 40 percent by 2030. Leader Schumer has been a longtime champion for achieving 100 percent clean energy, ensuring all U.S. vehicles are zero-emissions and protecting our public lands and waters. In the 116th Congress, Leader Schumer was instrumental in passing the Great American Outdoors Act, which permanently reauthorized the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF). Leader Schumer has earned a 93% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.
The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, the connected federal political action committee (PAC) of the League of Conservation Voters, works to elect leaders who stand up for a clean, healthy environment and to defeat anti-environment candidates who oppose climate action. Since the 1990 election cycle, LCVAF has helped elect and re-elect 90 U.S. Senators and 450 members of the U.S. House of Representatives. Over the last several years, our efforts have also helped elevate climate change and clean energy as critical issues in key elections.
