Washington D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect pro-environment candidates, announced its endorsement of Rashida Tlaib for re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives from Michigan’s 13th Congressional District.
“Representing the most polluted neighborhoods in Michigan, Representative Rashida Tlaib has been a fierce advocate for environmental justice in the state legislature and in Congress,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “She has been a critical voice in Congress and we are excited to continue to work together to achieve more equitable solutions that center around the needs of communities most impacted by the climate crisis.”
“Representative Rashida Tlaib is a proven champion for clean air, safe, affordable drinking water and environmental justice here in Michigan,” said Michigan League of Conservation Voters Executive Director Lisa Wozniak. “Michiganders can trust her to continue the fight for the health and safety of our communities, especially those that have been disproportionately impacted by pollution, and we are proud to continue partnering with her in that fight.”
“Residents across the 13th Congressional District and the country are tired of waiting – we deserve clean air and water now,” said Representative Rashida Tlaib. “To address the climate crisis and protect our residents, we need strong allies in every city, district, and state. I am proud to work alongside and accept the endorsement of the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund as we work toward climate justice for all.”
Representative Rashida Tlaib was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. She was elected to Congress in 2018. She serves as Vice Chair of the House Oversight Subcommittee on the Environment, and led efforts recently to shed light on Marathon Petroleum Corporation and others’ efforts to roll back the clean car standards. She also joined with Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR) to lead a letter from 47 Members of Congress opposing efforts by the Federal Reserve to help the oil and gas industry by expanding the Main Street Lending Program to include these corporations. The House recently passed Tlaib’s amendment to H.R. 2, the Moving America Forward Act, with bipartisan support, authorizing $22.5 billion over 5 years in critical funding for full lead pipe replacement, prioritizing low-income communities. Prior to serving in Congress, in 2008, Tlaib ran for the State House and became the first Muslim American woman to serve in the Michigan Legislature. She served for three terms and earned a strong 89 percent lifetime rating on the Michigan League of Conservation Voters’ Scorecard. After leaving the legislature, she worked for the Sugar Law Center, a non-profit that provides free legal representation for workers.
