Washington, D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect pro-environment candidates, announced today its endorsement of Representative Derek Kilmer for re-election to the U.S. House from Washington’s 6th Congressional District.

“Representative Derek Kilmer believes our earth is worth fighting for and understands the impact our action or lack of action will have on future generations,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “We are thrilled to endorse him and continue the urgent work of standing up to polluters who are worsening the climate crisis.”

“At a time when there are numerous threats to our planet, I’m grateful that the folks we trust to protect our environment trust me to make the progress we need,” said Representative Derek Kilmer. “I’ve been on the frontlines with folks in our region, fighting to protect our environment and combat climate change. When the Trump Administration pushed to allow Big Oil to drill off of Washington State’s coast, we fought back and stopped them. When Donald Trump proposed eliminating all federal funds for Puget Sound recovery and for salmon restoration, we fought back and successfully increased funding. In our region, we’ve shown that we can protect our natural resources and grow our economy. I’m proud to have the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund’s endorsement because I’m not done fighting to ensure that we protect the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the earth we pass on to our kids.”

“Congressman Derek Kilmer has a long history in Washington — from the State House to Congress – fighting to protect Puget Sound, clean air and water, and the health of Washingtonians across our state,” said Washington Conservation Voters Chief Campaigns Officer Shannon Murphy. “Congressman Kilmer has always put our communities ahead of polluters’ toxic agendas. He knows that to tackle our biggest environmental challenges like the climate crisis and protecting Puget Sound we need strong leadership in Congress.”

Representative Derek Kilmer served in the Washington state House from 2005 to 2007 and the state Senate from 2007 until he was elected to the U.S. House in 2012.  He was reelected to a fourth term in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2018. Representative Kilmer serves on the Interior and Environment Subcommittee, Defense Subcommittee, and Energy and Water Development Subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committee. He established the Puget Sound Recovery Caucus with his colleague, Representative Denny Heck, to help this critical body of water by preventing pollution from urban stormwater runoff, protecting and restoring habitat, and re-opening shellfish beds. Kilmer is also pushing for a bipartisan solution to solve the problem of ocean acidification and is a key supporter of the National Park system. He’s also calling for solutions to climate change that can unleash new opportunities for jobs and growth in the private sector, and sponsored the Tribal Coastal Resiliency Act and the Climate Change Health and Protection Act. Representative Kilmer has earned a strong 94% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.
