Washington D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect pro-environment candidates, announced its endorsement of Jack Reed for re-election to the U.S. Senate from Rhode Island.
“Senator Jack Reed has been a longtime leader for the health and safety of Rhode Island’s environment and communities,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “Senator Reed has fought against the Trump administration’s vicious attacks on our climate, water, and air, especially during the COVID pandemic, and we are proud to support him for re-election.”
“LCV Action Fund has spent decades fighting for environmental progress and climate justice across the United States,” said Senator Jack Reed. “A healthy environment is critical to our public health, economic and national security. As a Senator from the Ocean State, I am committed to this fight — one that will lead us to a healthier, more equitable and sustainable future.”
A West Point graduate and former Army Ranger, Jack Reed has represented Rhode Island in the U.S. Senate since 1997. As the Ocean State’s senior senator, Reed has fought against efforts to undermine the EPA’s ability to protect our health and environment and delivered remarks during the landmark #Up4Change event to help raise awareness about the immediacy and potential effects of unmitigated climate change. Reed is one of the top champions in the Senate for funding the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), has worked to increase energy efficiency, end fossil fuel subsidies and support the Paris Climate Agreement. He has helped secure funding to clean up Brownfields, conserve Rhode Island’s open spaces and wildlife, protect clean drinking water and Rhode Island’s estuaries. He was one of the lead sponsors on legislation to prevent federal funding from going towards Trump’s efforts to undermine climate science and on legislation to generate renewable energy from our oceans. He has fought for clean water and to get toxic PFAS chemicals classified for Superfund cleanup. Senator Reed has earned an excellent 97% lifetime score and a 100% on LCV’s 2019 National Environmental Scorecard.

The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, the connected federal political action committee (PAC) of the League of Conservation Voters, works to elect leaders who stand up for a clean, healthy environment and to defeat anti-environment candidates who oppose climate action. Since the 1990 election cycle, LCVAF has helped elect and re-elect 90 U.S. Senators and 450 members of the U.S. House of Representatives. Over the last several years, our efforts have also helped elevate climate change and clean energy as critical issues in key elections.
