LCV Action Fund Endorses Senator Susan Collins for Re-Election

Jun 30, 2014

WASHINGTON, DC— The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of Susan Collins for re-election to the U.S. Senate from Maine. Senator Collins has worked across the aisle to protect our planet and public health while advocating for America to move towards a clean energy economy.

“Senator Susan Collins is committed to finding bipartisan solutions that will safeguard our environment and combat climate change while promoting clean energy, which will create good paying jobs and reduce our reliance on dirty fossil fuels,” said LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski. “She is always fighting for the people of Maine by supporting commonsense policies that promote the state’s outdoor heritage and help protect our air, water and public health.”

“Maine Conservation Voters supports LCV Action Fund’s endorsement of Senator Susan Collins for re-election to the United State Senate,” said Maine Conservation Voters President Daniel Amory. “Senator Collins has for years worked across the aisle to support a number of environmental initiatives. She has voted against bills that attempt to take away the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) authority to protect the air we breathe and the water we drink, and she has been a leader in addressing our changing climate.”

“I am honored to once again receive the endorsement of the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund,” said Senator Susan Collins. “The people of Maine have always been faithful stewards of our environment because we understand its tremendous value to our way of life.  Domestic, affordable, clean energy solutions, improved efficiency, environmental protections, and conservation, will benefit the natural beauty of Maine, improve public health, and help ensure a higher quality of life for ourselves and future generations.”

Senator Collins has been a leader in the fight against climate disruption, including introducing legislation that would have reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 83 percent by 2050. She has voted to defend the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) ability to protect public health by cutting carbon pollution, and reducing mercury and other toxic air pollutants. Senator Collins has also been a leader in international efforts to combat climate change by sponsoring legislation promoting a global market for clean and efficient cookstoves, which would help address a major source of pollution in developing countries that harms public health and our climate.

Senator Collins also understands the importance of Maine’s outdoor heritage, which is why she supports the Land and Water Conservation Fund and Forest Legacy Program.

She is committed to expanding Maine’s clean energy industry, including investing in deepwater offshore wind energy. Senator Collins also advocates for America to improve our energy efficiency by encouraging the weatherization of homes.

Her voting record has earned Senator Collins the highest score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard of any Republican in the Senate. The non-partisan Scorecard is a nationally accepted yardstick used to rate members of Congress on environmental and clean energy issues. Based on key environmental votes in the House and Senate, it is often used by the media to quickly describe a Member’s record. For more information, visit https://scorecard.lcv.org.
