Washington, D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will support sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of Tina Smith for U.S. Senate from Minnesota.
“Senator Tina Smith has an impressive track record fighting for Minnesota’s families and environment, and the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund is proud to endorse her,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “Senator Smith is working to protect our air, water, and land and build a clean energy economy in Minnesota and across the country.”
“I am committed to protecting and preserving our nation’s land, water and air so future generations can continue to build toward a clean energy future,” said Senator Smith. “I have long fought to preserve Minnesota’s way of life—our lakes, rivers and forests—while working with clean energy businesses to grow jobs, and I look forward to continuing that work in the Senate.”
While serving as Minnesota’s Lieutenant Governor, Smith championed clean energy, leading the effort to raise the state’s Renewable Energy Standard from 25 percent by 2025 to 50 percent by 2030. As a member of the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, Smith is continuing her leadership and supporting climate action and protections for our air, water, and lands. Smith has spoken out against the Trump administration’s decisions to roll back the Clean Power Plan and pull out of the Paris Climate Agreement. She is also a sponsor of the ANTIQUITIES Act of 2018 to protect our public lands, and supports the Rural Energy for America Program (REAP), which helps agricultural producers and rural small businesses with energy efficiency improvements.
About LCV Action Fund
The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, the connected federal political action committee (PAC) of the League of Conservation Voters, works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental laws and policies, and defeat those who stand in the way of progress. Since the 1994 election cycle, LCVAF has helped elect and re-elect 74 U.S. senators and 331 members of the U.S. House of Representatives. Over the last several years, our efforts have also helped elevate climate change and clean energy as critical issues in key elections.
