LCV Action Fund and the Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund Endorse Matt Heinz for Congress

Oct 21, 2016

Washington DC—Today the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund (LCV Action Fund) and Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund (Victory Fund) endorsed Matt Heinz for U.S. House of Representatives – underscoring the importance of his candidacy to both the environmental and LGBT communities. Dr. Heinz’s strong record in the state legislature makes him the best choice for Arizona’s 2nd Congressional District.

“Southern Arizonans need a strong environmental ally like Dr. Matt Heinz in Congress,” said LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski. “His first-hand experience has shown him that protecting public health and protecting the environment go hand-in-hand. In Congress, Matt Heinz will continue to build on his strong record and protect our precious public lands and wildlife while working to grow our clean energy economy.”

“Dr. Matt Heinz knows Arizonans are stronger standing together, while his opponent holds extremist positions that divide communities – including support for laws allowing employers to fire people because they are LGBT,” said Victory Fund President & CEO Aisha C. Moodie-Mills. “Dr. Heinz’s record in the state legislature has proven he is an effective bipartisan leader and consensus-builder who has achieved results for Southern Arizona. Meanwhile his opponent continues to play politics with our country’s future by refusing to disavow Trump and his irresponsible and dangerous rhetoric. Victory Fund and LCV Action Fund are proud to support Dr. Heinz.”

“I’m honored to have the support of both the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund and the Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund,” said Dr. Heinz. “As a physician, I’ve learned that good health is about so much more than physical ailments. Health is about having a good job, so you’re able to feed your family. It’s about living in a safe environment where the air and water won’t make you sick. It’s about having a community where people respect you, and where you feel safe just living your life. During my time in the Arizona legislature, my work as a physician, and in my private life, I’ve worked hard to create a healthier Arizona, and I look forward to continuing to do so in Congress.”

Dr. Matt Heinz worked at the Tucson VA during his Internal Medicine Residency Program and has spent the past 10 years working at Tucson Medical Center. In 2008, he was elected the Arizona House of Representatives, where he served two terms and rose to the position of caucus whip. In the State House he voted to safeguard public lands, protect wildlife and expand Arizona’s clean energy industries. In 2013, Heinz was appointed by President Obama to serve as Director of Provider Outreach in the Office of Intergovernmental and External Affairs, at the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, where he worked with other physicians to implement the Affordable Care Act.
