WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the Obama Administration is expected to unveil the first ever methane pollution standards for new and modified sources in the oil and gas industry, with a goal of reducing methane pollution 40-45% by 2025. In response, LCV Legislative Representative Madeleine Foote issued the following statement:
“The Obama Administration has taken another landmark step in the fight against climate change by proposing the first ever limits on methane pollution from the oil and gas industry. Solutions to methane pollution are available now, cost-effective, and will protect public health by reducing harmful air pollutants that threaten our communities. These proposed standards build on the Clean Power Plan, helping to move us towards achieving our international commitments, and demonstrate the administration’s continued dedication to making the U.S. a leader in the global effort to combat climate change.”
