Washington DC – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) is overjoyed to congratulate the next president and vice president of the United States, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, two true environmental champions, on their historic win for equity and climate justice. Kamala Harris has made history as the first Black person and South Asian American to serve as vice president and the first woman to serve in the White House. LCV’s affiliated entities invested a total of more than $115 million during this election cycle to elect climate champions up and down the ballot.

“The candidate with the most ambitious plan for climate action and environmental justice ever has won the most votes ever.  Over the past few weeks, voters made a clear choice to elect new leaders who will create millions of good paying jobs, center the health and well-being of our communities, and make our country a leader in climate action once again,” said LCV President Gene Karpinski. “This is the end of the toxic, anti-science, anti-environment, racist agenda of the Trump administration together we defeated the dirtiest president of all time. And to be clear, this victory would not have happened without people of color who had to overcome historic barriers to voting. LCV is so proud to have helped elect President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Harris, and we can’t wait to work with them to build back better for a more just and equitable clean energy future for all.”

LCV’s affiliated entities ran the most ambitious electoral program in our history, with a record-breaking $115 million investment, including a massive presidential program aimed at persuading swing voters on the environment. LCV Victory Fund named Donald Trump the “Dirtiest of All Time” as part of the Dirty Dozen list and invested over $22.3 million on defeating him and electing Joe Biden including running a $14 million high-impact paid media program layering digital and direct mail advertising about Trump’s extreme anti-environmental record to 1.58 million of the most persuadable voters across six battleground states — AZ, FL, MI, NC, PA, WI. For the final months we shifted much of our presidential spending to mobilizing climate voters — especially historically underrepresented groups including young voters and voters of color — to turn out for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.

LCV Action fund endorsed Joe Biden in April and shared a statement of support when Kamala Harris earned a spot on the ticket. LCV’s GreenRoots member mobilization program turned out LCV members to volunteer with the Biden-Harris ticket as part of a nationwide field program to help elect environmental champions that engaged nearly 2,600 LCV members.

Environmental donors contributed over $20 million in support of the Biden-Harris campaign via GiveGreen, including $15 million raised by Climate Leaders for Biden. GiveGreen — a partnership between LCV Victory Fund, NextGen America and the NRDC Action Fund PAC that helps grassroots donors directly contribute to pro-environment candidates — raised a record $43 million for the 2020 cycle.
