North Conway, NH—Today, the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) hosted a roundtable at the Mount Washington Observatory Weather Discovery Center in North Conway where members of the community, elected officials and business leaders lead a discussion about the impacts that climate change is having on New Hampshire’s winter tourism economy. Nearly 20 residents attended the roundtable, and called for action on climate change.

“Our winter tourism economy is vital to our way of life,” said Rob Werner, LCV New Hampshire State Director. “We have an obligation to combat climate change to protect our environment and our winter tourism economy for future generations to enjoy.”

The speakers included Executive Director of Ski NH Jessyca Keeler, Executive Director of the Jackson Ski Touring Foundation Breanne Torrey, Director of Lodging Operations of the Appalachian Mountain Club Vince Spiotti, and State Representative Ed Butler, owner of the Notchland Inn.

“New Hampshire is known for our mountains and ski slopes,” said Director of Lodging Operations of the Appalachian Mountain Club Vince Spiotti. “It’s what draws people to visit this great state, and climate change is threating our economy and our lifestyle.”

“We are already seeing the impacts of climate change on our economy,” said State Representative Ed Butler. “This is a matter we must take seriously, and we can do so in a way that creates jobs and protects the environment and natural beauty that brings tourists to enjoy the wonderful skiing and snowboarding in our state.”
