WASHINGTON, DC – In response to the Interior Department’s proposed rule to update the federal coal royalty system, LCV Land Conservation Fellow Andy French released the following statement:
“Coal companies are taking advantage of outdated regulations to cheat taxpayers. They have gamed the system and are taking more than their fair share of revenue from resources mined on our public lands. Interior’s proposal is a step in the right direction, but we need a stronger final rule to ensure Americans are getting their fair share.”
