LCV Launches $17K in Digital Ads Targeting Members’ Home Districts Over July 4 Recess

Jul 2, 2019

Positive ads thank representatives who supported pro-environment spending package

Negative ads call out representatives who opposed protections from mercury, toxic pollution

Washington, D.C. — On Monday, the League of Conservation Voters announced $17,000 in new digital ads running in the home districts of 33 Members of Congress, including 19 members of the new class, during the July 4th recess. One set of ads thank Members for pro-environment votes on the spending package passed at the end of June, focusing on two critical amendments — stopping drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (roll call vote 384) and protecting our children from mercury and other toxic pollution (roll call vote 395). Another set of ads holds Members who opposed protections from mercury and other toxic pollution accountable.

“LCV is grateful for the pro-environment majority in the House and for all of the Members of Congress who stood up for safe and healthy communities for our kids, put people over polluters, and passed pro-environment federal spending packages in June,” said Tiernan Sittenfeld, LCV Senior Vice President of Government Affairs. “As families across the country celebrate our nation’s independence this Fourth of July recess, we need to recognize that it is the people who live here as well as our natural resources that make this country great. We thank our Congressional champions for standing up for clean air, clean water, national parks and clean energy for all communities. We also hope this holiday recess is a wake up call for the Members who voted against our children’s health and failed to protect our kids from mercury and other toxic pollution — your constituents deserve better.”
