Washington, D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) launched a $50,000 digital ad campaign thanking champions in Congress for supporting strong international action to combat climate change. These environmental champions are standing up to attempts by polluters and their congressional allies to undermine the global climate negotiations in Paris. The digital campaign consists of an online ad, Facebook ads, a Change.org petition and Twitter ads.
“We commend our environmental allies in Congress who are standing up to the big polluters and climate change deniers attempting to undermine President Obama’s leadership and the international climate negotiations in Paris,” said LCV President Gene Karpinski. “These leaders recognize that climate change is the challenge of our generation, and they’ve witnessed the significant economic, environmental and health benefits of advancing the clean energy economy in their home states. We must work together to ensure that every country does its fair share to reduce the pollution fueling climate change and leave our children and grandchildren a better future.”
This campaign highlights their leadership as the formal two-week climate negotiations in Paris commence. With over 180 countries having submitted climate action plans covering nearly 95 percent of global emissions, momentum is building for President Obama and other world leaders to reach a historic global climate agreement in Paris. Later today, the House of Representatives is expected to vote on two extreme legislative measures to undermine the Clean Power Plan and permanently prevent the EPA from limiting dangerous carbon pollution from power plants.
